Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.

New Listener Print
Listener and Foley show on friday. i’m totally going to be there.
i typed out some scripture and there was a slight error in what i typed out.
To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning colas on his head.”
i guess it would have the same affect. it may be more appropriate.

i was reading where Jesus tells people not to be anxious about what they’ll wear or eat. as i read i thought: “this is my argument against dressing up for church. don’t worry about what you’ll wear. there ya go, mom. boom. i win.”
and then the Holy Spirit pressed on my heart and said: “I am talking to you. you worry way too much about what you’ll wear....

newspring puts on an incredible conference every year for church leaders. the student ministry break out sessions are always incredible. this year i was reminded of a lot of things.
but the one thing stood out above the rest: continually speak the gospel over students. preach scary grace.
that isn’t revolutionary. that isn’t ground breaking or earth shattering. that is basic. the...

and as i continued reading the book of jeremiah, i felt like that obnoxious person in the movie theater yelling at the person on the screen to “not open that door” and “look behind you” and “don’t be a fool.”
read this and tell me that everything in you doesn’t want to yell at the screen.
persistence patience
a lot of times, when i read the bible, i think that prophets prayed and God immediately answered their prayers. and maybe that was the case sometimes, but jeremiah 42:7 says:
at the end of ten days the word of the Lord came to jeremiah.
he prayed for ten days before he ever heard an answer from God. the immediacy that i expect God to answer my prayers with didn’t even take place in the...

unbeknownst to laura beth or myself - my dog crapped her back this morning. how? i have no idea. but she cuddled up in the bed with me and left streaks all over the comforter.
it wasn’t the best way to start off my day.

i got a shake weight as a joke for christmas. it has been sitting in my bedroom, unused. i haven’t exactly gotten around to any kind of regular exercise lately. so today - i’m going to start a thirty day shake weight challenge.
six minutes a day. thirty days. i’m going to be ripped.

romans 3:23
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
i use this verse all the time. i feel like it is a super important verse for people to hear and to learn and to grasp. we are all sinners. we all fall short. but have you read this verse in the context of romans 3? i’m sure you have. but do it again. read romans 3:9-26 and be blown away. verse 23 isn’t a gloomy verse. it is in...

it reaches to the skies
i was reminded of the eternal faithfulness of God today. and as i read through a list of psalms that mention faithfulness (biblegateway is my friend), i am amazed.
i try to have profound thoughts. but the faithfulness of God has blown me away today.
i guess i never really understood the importance of an inside voice. but now that i am around some people who don’t have one, i realize that my elementary school teachers were on to something.
the reason the world doesn’t take the church seriously is because church...
